Echo plans to invest $2.4 million at its newly acquired Ammex Plastics facilities in Monroe and Frenchtown.

LANSING — Echo Engineering and Productions Supplies is set to make an investment in Monroe County that is expected to create 60 jobs at two new facilities.

The full-service custom plastic components manufacturer recently acquired two move-in ready facilities in Monroe County — one in the City of Monroe and the other in Frenchtown Township — in the acquisition of Ammex Plastics, a full-service plastics components manufacturer based in Monroe.

Echo plans to invest $2.4 million at the newly acquired facilities, resulting in a $210,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

The facilities, one a production facility and the other a warehouse, are currently supported by 47 full-time employees. The production facility operates 17 presses with three additional presses on order and expected sometime this year.

“There is great economic growth happening throughout southeast Michigan and Monroe County,” said state Rep. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, in a press release. “Our region has a long history of manufacturing, and this expansion will put two existing facilities back into productive use.

“This grant will support a $2.4 million expansion project that will create 60 jobs, provide new opportunities and continue to improve the local economy,” he said.

Echo is one of four companies planning expansions in Michigan with the support of the Michigan Strategic Fund. Esys Automation, Jedco Inc. and Orchid Orthopedic Solutions are also in the process of major investments in the state.

The four companies’ expansions are expected to generate $55 million in total private investment and create 338 jobs in communities around Michigan.

“Just like PlaneWave’s recent move (to Adrian) from California, this is yet another example of Michigan drawing in jobs from out of state,” Zorn said. “I applaud state, local and company officials for working together to make it a reality.”
